Some months ago I wrote a poem for Warwick University's LGBTQ+ student magazine, PLANORAMA. They produce a magazine three times a year and I submitted my poem in the thick of it for the Pride edition (June 2024).
I'm intending to make some minor revisions to the poem and revisit it in the future to reflect on how my perspective has changed and how this is conveyed through the speaker's navigation of the woods and conversation with her mother, but for now, I am more than proud of it. Before university, I wouldn't have dared to speak publicly about queerness and compulsory heterosexuality, let alone have a published poem on it!
